Doctor denounces that IMSS managers are vaccinated against COVID before front-line personnel

Ana Paola by Cosio Farias, a pediatrician and pediatric endocrinologist from the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), presented her resignation from the agency in protest that managers are being vaccinated against COVID-19 before the health personnel who attend the pandemic.

“My anger is that at this moment they are not vaccinating the front line personnel, which in front of many of us we have seen administrators who have skipped the order of the vaccination list and they are already vaccinated since they are not directly exposed to seeing patients who have COVID-19, “he said in an interview with Omar Cepeda in The Bloomberg Financier.

De Cosio, who explained that he works in the Pediatric Hospital of the Centro Médico Siglo XXI, reported that when the staff asks for an estimated date to know when they will be inoculated, the authorities tell them that they have no control of the lists.

The pediatrician explained that on Thursday, December 31, she was assigned to the respiratory area, after which he requested that a health worker who had already been vaccinated against the pathogen be assigned in his place.

“I received the threat that they were going to report me for absenteeism from work. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back, that there was no support from the authorities“, he stressed.

The doctor asked the population to stay at home and not lower their guard in the face of the increase in hospitalizations due to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, since, she remarked, fewer and fewer personnel are part of the first line of care.

“Many colleagues have already been infected, some have sequelae and some have died“he added.

“I believe that it is necessary to raise the voice and that it is known what is happening and that the health personnel of first line have priority to receive the vaccine”, remarked.

Dr. De Cosio’s testimony contradicts the instructions issued by both the federal government and Zoé Robledo, director of the IMSS, who on Wednesday stressed that no one who not outside the institution’s front-line medical personnel should be inoculated.
