Regrettable episode last night, around 9.30pm, in the Corato hospital.
A medical resident serving in the emergency room of Umberto I was violently attacked by a person who did not want to wait his turn.
The attacker, a young Italian, showed up at the emergency room asking to be seen immediately. However, the emergency room team was busy treating a patient who arrived in code orange and therefore asked the man to wait. This triggered his aggression. Even before handing over his personal details, the attacker threw himself at the doctor and hit him violently with a slap in the face and then fled.
The doctor was assisted on site by colleagues: he reported facial trauma with a five-day prognosis.
The Carabinieri from the Corato station intervened on site and collected the testimony of those present. The area where the attack occurred is not monitored by any video surveillance system. The doctor filed a complaint against unknown persons and the general management of the ASL Bari was informed of the fact for appropriate measures.
