Marco Antonio Espinosa has been on board 62 cruises of the Holland America Line company for 62 days; the Noordam where he set sail from the port of Aucklam, New Zealand, on March 13 and the Koningsdam, which he was changed to three weeks ago.

He worked for a company that provided aesthetic medicine services on cruise ships, but due to the health contingency the contract was no longer renewed, so he lost his job in the middle of this odyssey.

After several days of navigating the waters of the Mexican Pacific, the Koningsdam cruise ship reached Vallarta PortBut the ship’s controls explained that it is the Mexican authorities that do not authorize the descent of the 20 Mexicans who travel, all members of the crew.

On his Twitter account, the doctor espinosa As of Tuesday, it requested the help of the Mexican authorities, but until Wednesday afternoon they received no response.

@SRE_mx @m_ebrard please the government help us to get off the ship of which we are crew. Starting tomorrow we will be anchored in front of Puerto Vallarta. We are a completely healthy ship that has neglected the Mexican crew, “he wrote in his message.

At the beginning we had no social constraints, as we were a clean boat with no problems, we were making a Pacific crossing, you can use the facilities, the company behaved well trying to give us support, ‘use the facilities, distract yourself, use the gym, invest time in you, stay healthy ”, Espinosa narrated about his first days on the cruise.

The doctor’s journey began on March 13 in the port of Aucklan, New Zealand, where they were surprised by worldwide restrictions on Covid-19.

In that port, the passengers disembarked and only approximately 700 crew members remained, who began the journey to America, crossing the Pacific Ocean.

As they approached the mainland, the policies on board the ship changed, to go to forced confinement, despite being a healthy crew.

More or less around April 15, we began to follow protocols of isolation, social distancing, with defined meal times and after returning confined to the booths, with hours for temperature measurement, “Espinosa said in a telephone interview.

From California, they set sail to Mexican waters, where the crew went to the Koningsdam cruise ship, for a voyage, through Ensenada, Baja California, to the Coronado Islands and continue to Puerto Vallarta, without obtaining their landing authorization.

We are more than a thousand crew, 20 Mexicans on board, we are of 70 nationalities, but there are Mexicans, Argentines, Peruvians, Chileans, of the main ones in America, ”he commented.

The other unfortunate news for Espinosa is that, for two months, at the beginning of the trip and the restrictions, the contract for the company he worked for was no longer renewed.

In my case, the company ended my contract for two months, and the contracts were ending with more crew, they gave compensation, but we are no longer working; Our contracts ended, they only told us that they were responsible for giving us food and in case of having any medical problem, take care of it, ”said Espinosa.

Until Wednesday night, the Koningsdan remains anchored off Puerto Vallarta, with 20 Mexicans asking to be allowed to disembark.
