“Dockless Bicycle Share Scheme brings 150 bikes to Castletroy to improve accessibility to cycling in Limerick”

Cycling is becoming an increasingly popular mode of transport, not only for its health and environmental benefits, but also for its affordability and efficiency. With this in mind, Limerick City and County Council have launched a new pilot scheme that aims to make cycling even more accessible, convenient and effortless for the people of Limerick. The initiative, known as the “effortless” bike scheme, has been designed to promote cycling across the city and encourage more people to leave their cars at home. In this article, we’ll explore the details of this exciting new scheme, how it works and what it means for the future of cycling in Limerick.

The Dockless Bicycle Share Scheme in Limerick is bringing a mix of 150 pedal and electric bikes to Castletroy. Starting from April 12, the community can use the bicycles for both leisure and commuter purposes. The scheme aims to increase accessibility to cycling among different demographics and eliminate unnecessary car journeys. To use the bikes, users need to download the Nextbike by TIER app, scan the QR code on the vehicle, and remove the lock from the rear wheel before riding. Electric bikes can be placed in the holder, while locking for pedal bikes is automatic. Once the ride is over, bikes can be parked using the app, but trips are still running until they are returned to the nearest official station with the return function in the app. Electric bikes can travel up to 25km/h, and the cost is €1 to unlock and €0.20 per minute. The bikes will be available for use all around Castletroy, from Limerick Quay up to UL. The scheme received positive feedback from the Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, as well as the community.

In conclusion, the new ‘effortless’ bike scheme pilot in Limerick is set to revolutionize the way people commute across the city. By providing ease and accessibility, this initiative aims to promote cycling as a healthy and sustainable alternative to driving. With the increasing concern over environmental issues and traffic congestion, it is a step in the right direction towards a cleaner and greener future. With positive feedback from the community, we hope to see this scheme implemented in other cities and towns across Ireland. So, it’s time to dust off those helmets and get pedaling!
