Do you want to live as Forrest Gump? Tom Hanks sells a luxury trailer and a unique Tesla

From time to time, a car belonging to a famous person will appear in the auction. Recently, the interested party was able to buy a Porsche after Diego Maradon, now it will be possible to buy a piece from the garage of the American actor Tom Hanks. And not only his cars are on offer, but also the iconic American Airstream trailer, in which Hanks lived, for example, during the shooting of the Oscar-winning film Forrest Gump.

The sale of pieces from Hanks’ garage will take place under the baton of the Bonhams auction house, and a total of three cars and a caravan will be auctioned. The most valuable of these should be the last named and more than ten-meter caravan Airstream Model 34 Limited Excella from 1992. His the price of the auction hall is estimated to 150 to 250 thousand dollars (ie about 3.22 to 5.37 million crowns).

The actor bought the caravan as new, but it is definitely not a standard specification. “I didn’t want to have anything built into it but a kitchen and a bathroom, so in the back there were only a table and a cabinet, a futon on the floor and a place for a small table and chairs,” says the actor for the Bonhams auction house. “I wanted a normal couch, so I bought one with removable legs to pull it through the door,” Hanks adds. If you ask why he wanted to furnish the living space himself, then because, in his own words, “he spent a lot of time in trailers with ugly design and very uncomfortable furniture.”

So if you buy Airstream, you will also get it “tailor-made”, with full equipment, including glasses or coffee machines, and with several Tom Hanks signatures. If only it wasn’t clear to whom it actually belonged. The fact that the actor lived in it, for example during the filming of Forrest Gump, The Loner in Seattle, The Green Mile or Angels and Demons, can also be an attraction for film enthusiasts. But there were many more of those pictures where the trailer was moving everywhere, as evidenced by the reduced flaps from a total of eighteen locations on the side windows – up to The Circle from 2017.

However, according to Hanks, films are made faster today and there is not much time left during filming, which is why he is getting rid of Airstream after almost thirty years. “I bought it at a time when it was just a lot slower to make a film,” he adds.

As mentioned in the introduction, however, Airstream will not be the only auction item from Hanks’ garage to go to auction. The trailer is closely linked to the Ford F-450 Super Duty in the Lariat equipment, which is an American pick-up from 2011 with two mountings on the rear axle, which was designed to tow and transport it to locations. Under the hood of the American full-size pick-up is an eight-cylinder diesel engine in combination with a six-speed automatic.

With the polished body of the trailer, Ford matches the silver metallic, the interior is also gray. By the way, it contains Hanks’ signature on the passenger’s vent. In addition, he has driven a car with practically full equipment less than seven thousand kilometers, so it is not surprising that the estimated price is according to Bonhams 70 to 100 thousand dollars, ie approximately 1.5 to 2.15 million crowns.

The Hollywood actor also “gets rid” of the Tesla Model S from 2015. Specifically, it is the P85D model, which means a pair of electric motors, all-wheel drive and a battery with a capacity of 85 kWh. Besides the owner’s interest in this particular car, his color is interesting – according to Tom Hanks’ requirements, the Model S is painted in his favorite iconic British Racing Green paint. You won’t find it in a regular American color swatch.

The car drove less than 22,000 kilometers and again has the actor’s signature in the interior. Estimated price? The same as the Ford F-450, ie 70 to 100 thousand dollars, in terms of about 1.5 to 2.15 million crowns.

The last of the four auctioned cars is a Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 from 1980. However, this is not an original FJ40, at least in terms of technology. Under the hood, a 4.3-liter six-cylinder L35 from the Vortec series of the GM concern works in combination with a five-speed manual transmission from the same manufacturer and all-wheel drive. The car also got a modified chassis or steering, the wheels are also different.

In the cab you will find electrically operated seats from Porsche, which contrast interestingly with the rest, at least visually of the almost original cab. The novelty is mainly air conditioning, additionally mounted rear speakers for Sony radio with cassette player. Hanks’ signature is again not missing in front of the co-driver. The price auction hall estimates to 75 to 125 thousand dollars or about 1.61 to 2.69 million crowns.

All four Tom Hanks pieces, along with many other cars, including a 1967 Ford GT40 Mk IV with an estimated cost of up to $ 3.5 million, will be part of an auction near Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. It will take place on Friday, August 13.
