PT Pertamina (Persero) and PT Pegadaian (Persero) a duet in the TJSL waste management program, namely the Pertamina Garbage Bank which converts used cooking oil into biodiesel combined with the Pegadaian Waste Bank which carries the Waste Sorting Saving Gold program.
Through this program, people can exchange used cooking oil that is handed over to the waste bank into gold savings.
“Through waste sorting activities (including used cooking oil) carried out in each house, this waste will be worth rupiah which will then be converted into gold savings for each person,” said AVP of the Communication & Literacy and Inclusion Department of PT Pegadaian. (Persero) Khoriyah Dwi Putranti (Tanti) told detikcom, Friday (2/10/2020).
How come? How to? Pegadaian explained that the main foundation of this program is changing the people’s mindset to want to care about the environment, because it all begins with education and socialization to the public about the dangers of waste and how to sort waste from home.
According to Tanti, trash it is not worthless goods, but there are still several types of waste that contain economic value which can later be worth investing in gold savings. The sorted waste or used cooking oil that is exchanged by the community to the waste bank is then weighed and converted to rupiah. If you reach a minimum of IDR 10,000, you can immediately convert it into gold savings.
“What used to be exchanged for used cooking oil is only cooking oil, if I’m not mistaken, 5 liters of used cooking oil gets 1 liter of new oil, that’s an average of Rp 15,000, what if it’s not converted into new oil but exchanged for gold savings,” he explained.
