Do you want to convert a petrol engine to electricity? Here is the detail of the costs

Jakarta

The government is currently pushing for a petrol-to-motorcycle conversion programme electric motor. This is done to reduce emissions, reduce fuel consumption and imports.

So the question is, how much does it cost to convert a petrol engine to electricity?

Senda Hurmuzan Kanam, head of the Center for Electricity Survey and Testing, New Energy, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, Directorate General of EBTKE, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, explained that currently the conversion cost for electric motor components is not matic it is IDR 15 million. Then for automatic motorcycles Rp. 14.1 million.

So there will be a cost for testing the conversion electric motor at BPLJSKB of IDR 430 thousand. This excludes the cost of mobilizing the test site.

Then there is the cost of dealing with a physical check of the old engine number, electric motorbike number, chassis number, STNK, TNKB and BPKB of IDR 500,000. Then there is also the service fee for converting an electric motorcycle in a certified workshop in the amount of IDR 1.2 million. This is outside the cost of replacing conventional components or spare engine parts. Meanwhile, the cost of issuing SUT and SRUT at the Ministry of Transport is IDR 0.

If calculated from these additional costs, then for conversion electric motor for non-matic vehicles around IDR 17.13 million, while for automatic motorbikes the conversion fee is around IDR 16.23 million.

“If you want to convert a BBM motorcycle into an electric motorcycle, you can visit a conversion workshop certified by the Ministry of Transport, one of which is the BBM motorcycle conversion workshop at P3tek Cipulir,” he explained to detik com earlier this week.

Senda explained that the types of petrol motorcycles that could be converted at the P3tek workshop were Honda Vario 110cc, 125cc and 150cc, Honda Beat, Honda Scoopy and Yamaha Fino. Then for the non-matic types, Honda Supra X 125, Honda Blade, Honda Revo, Vega R and ZR, Jupiter MX, Shogun 125 and Honda Win 110 cc.

He revealed that the gasoline engines that have been converted to electric motors have a simple working principle. “Electric motors have minimal routine maintenance because the engine used for propulsion is an electric motor that does not include combustion processes such as changing the oil, spark plugs, packaging and filters,” he explained.

Therefore the electric motor is defined as an ecological vehicle, because it does not produce CO2 emissions which can affect the pollution of the surrounding air.

The benefit in the relatively cheaper annual fee for motor vehicles is around IDR 65,000. “This electric motorcycle is also free to enter the even-odd path,” she added.

Senda said the government is trying to increase public interest in the conversion. This is done by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) by encouraging the provision of incentive packages in the form of reduced purchase cost of battery packs for electric motor conversions.
