This afternoon, traffic police officers Alek Kalenski and Nikolay Balabanov are controlling car traffic near Vladaya. They notice a lorry entering a section prohibited for the movement of heavy-duty trucks.
“And that’s why the lorry was stopped. We introduced ourselves to the driver. We asked him for documents for registration and driving the vehicle. My colleague and I went to the official car. He stayed with the lorry to prepare his documents and come,” he explained to BNT Nikolay Balabanov, junior car inspector in the “Road Police” department – SDVR.
After a minute, the driver, who is Ukrainian, returned and gave the police only his passport. They explained to him again that they wanted his driver’s license and the documents of the truck.
“Taking the passport, opening it to see the identity of the driver, as it was not established until that moment, there was a 10 euro note inserted in the passport. I opened it in front of him and asked the driver what this money was and what it was for. the same person stated that this money is for us so that we don’t sanction him”, explained Alek Kalenski, a junior car inspector in the “Road Police” department – SDVR.
However, the uniformed officers drew up an act against the driver, and the minimum fine for his violation is BGN 500, and the maximum can reach BGN 3,000. And because of the proposed bribe, they detained the Ukrainian.
“Immediately, colleague Balabanov got out of the car. He detained the driver, handcuffed him. During that time, I reported the situation to the on-duty unit. A little later, a team of the 6th regional on-duty operational group arrived, described the banknote, seized it,” he said Alek Kalenski, junior car inspector in the “Traffic Police” department – SDVR.
And the driver who offered a bribe was detained for 24 hours. The case is yet to be reported to the prosecutor’s office and he will be charged.
