You certainly did not miss the fact that Škoda introduced the fourth generation Fabia yesterday. And that she also revealed her Czech awards.

One of the most important models of the Mladá Boleslav carmaker has been with us as a hatchback since 1999. The first generation was launched on the domestic market in December of that year, but Škoda revealed the prices in August. Let’s remember them.

From the current point of view, the offer of motorizations and the relatively large price difference between the most affordable and the most expensive version are particularly interesting. While the car in the basic equipment of the Classic with a four-cylinder 1.0 MPI engine with an output of 37 kW started at CZK 249,900, the model in the highest Elegance equipment with a 1.9-liter turbodiesel with an output of 74 kW started at CZK 479,900.

The new generation relies exclusively on petrol engines and will be available in our country from CZK 329,900 in the Ambition equipment with a 1.0 MPI Evo engine with an output of 59 kW, the higher Style version starts at CZK 359,900. We don’t know the price of the stylishly cut Monte Carlo design yet, it won’t arrive until next year.
Of course, the equipment is completely incomparable – also due to the time lag and technological development. While the basic design of the new Fabia will offer fully LED headlights, bluetooth connection, lane keeping, central locking with remote control, manual air conditioning and a height-adjustable driver’s and front passenger’s seat, the first generation was a nestling from today’s perspective.

For example, the Fabia Classic had a driver’s airbag, height-adjustable seat belts at the front, power steering for versions with engines from 47 kW, manual all-wheel drive, height- and length-adjustable steering wheel, black exterior mirrors, 13- or 14-inch steel wheels. audible signaling of lights not switched off, opening of the fifth door from the driver’s seat or heated rear window. Central locking, radio, ABS or perhaps air conditioning did not get.
However, the top design of Elegance offered, for example, tinted glass with UV filter, front fog lights, 14 “alloy wheels, pull-out box under the car radio, information system, multifunction indicator (on-board computer), central locking with remote control, security system and folding key, electric control of all windows, heated front seats, air conditioning with automatic control and refrigerated compartments in the instrument panel, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors or electrically heated windscreen washer nozzles.
And we can also mention additional elements. Customers could also order matters such as ESP, cruise control, alarm, headlight washers, 15-inch alloy wheels, towing equipment, leather package (steering wheel rim, cuff, gear lever, leather brake handle), navigation system, parking distance signaling or leather seat upholstery and leather door panels. For an additional fee, there was a car radio, which Škoda offered in several versions.
In order to put these prices into “reality”, let’s recall the difference in the average wage. According to the Czech Statistical Office, the average gross monthly wage in 1999 was CZK 12,797, in the last last quarter of last year (which is the most recent figure so far) it reached CZK 38,525.
