Do you like washing your hair at night? Beware of the threat of fungus on the scalp! : health of the Okezone

PART people prefer to wash their hair or wash the hair at night, after a day of activity and before going to bed.

The clean, comfortable, fresh, and light feeling of clean hair before bed is one of the reasons many people choose to wash their hair in the evening rather than in the morning.

Well, from a health point of view, does this habit actually have a negative impact on hair? Unfortunately, the answer is yes. Explained Sally-Ann Travers, consultant trichologist at The Cotswold Trichology Center & Theradome, the habit of washing your hair at night can, sleeping with wet hair can cause hair cuticle problems.

“The main problem with sleeping with wet hair is that the cuticle (outer layer) of the hair lifts more when it’s wet,” explains Sally-Ann, quoted by Elle India, Jpeople (11/25/2022).

Not only that, washing your hair at night has also been revealed by Sally to make your hair frizzy when you wake up in the morning.

“Sleeping with wet hair can make it more tangled, especially if you move a lot while you sleep—it’s hard to comb through in the morning,” she adds.

The negative effects don’t end there, Sally further explained that sleeping with damp hair can cause fungi to grow on the scalp.

This is because fungi like warm, humid conditions to grow, and consistently going to bed with wet hair after washing your hair overnight can contribute to an overgrowth of fungi on the scalp. Finally, all of these factors can potentially lead to scalp problems or dandruff and even breathing problems.

“Spores can also develop on the pillow due to the same humidity conditions, which can cause respiratory problems, rhinitis and allergies,” Sally explains.

The key is, if you still can’t kick the habit of washing your hair at night, you can avoid hair damage and harmful fungus by drying your hair thoroughly before going to bed.

Aside from that, once your hair is dry it is also advisable to tie your hair up in a loose braid.
