Like every day, the calendar remembers all the saints who have been canonized by the Catholic Church. Today, October 11, it is the turn of Santa María Soledad Torres Acostafounder of the Sisters Servants of Mary, Ministers of the Sick. This means that today almost 47,000 women in Spain named María Soledad will receive a special congratulation, according to figures from the INE.
The story of this woman from Madrid began in 1826. María Soledad was a young religious enthusiast who followed with admiration the work that the Vincentian sisters did to care for the poorest. It was this compassion that guided her to the parish priest of Chamberí, a neighborhood at that time full of people without resources.
