The secret service is in charge of the security of the president and his family, and for protection uses key names for each of the members of the presidential family, in the same way it assigns one to the vice president, members of the cabinet and prominent places in U.S.
The use of such names was given for security reasons, and dates to a time when sensitive electronic communications were not routinely encrypted.
To date the names simply serve the purposes of brevity, clarity and tradition, as they are no longer secret because they are all in the public domain.

Jimmy Carter took that of Deacon (Deacon) as he was extremely religious.
For its part, Joe Biden said he will keep the name of Celtic, who was the one he chose when he was vice president, while Jill Biden will keep that of Capri.
