A shocking new discovery about the foods we eat every day: apparently, we can no longer be sure what we bring to the table. But what is really happening?
Over the years, we have had the opportunity to read several scientific studies that have shed light on what is inside the foods we eat every day, incorporating them into our recipes.
In this context, it has emerged that some foods are more susceptible to bacterial contamination than others. However, the recent discovery regarding the foods present in our diet could leave you speechless, showing a high risk of contamination.
World shock: do we really know what we eat every day?
The answer to this question may be positive at first, but recent research questions our confidence in the foods we eat, leaving us wondering.
Confirmation of this concern comes from new research published in Journal of Exposure and Environmental Epidemiology. The study examined 3600 chemical substances that come into contact with the human body, not only through pesticides present on food, but also due to contamination from food preservatives.
Disturbing discovery: how polluted is our food?
There is research on it pointed out that 25% of the 14,000 chemicals found in food packaging it is transferred directly into the human body. These are heavy metals, volatile organic compounds and perfluoroalkyl substances, considered very dangerous, capable of increasing the risk of cancer.
The problem does not only concern the use of plastic, but also other types of packaging, such as paper and recycled materials, which become important sources of pollution. Jane Muncke, scientific director of the Food Packaging Forum, commented on the situation as follows: “Recycled paper and cardboard are probably the worst. And I know that’s hard to accept. Recycling paper, cardboard and plastic for food packaging leads to inks that are not suitable for food contact, thus increasing chemical risks“.

Many scientists agree that there is a need to increase food packaging testing and implement stricter regulations to make the food we buy safer, limiting the risks of chemical contamination as much as possible.
