Both New York and New Jersey have reported a drastic increase in vehicle theft in recent months, but there are certain models that criminals prefer. So if you own a Honda, you better not lose sight of it, because it is one of the favorite cars of lovers of other people’s things.

Two Honda models top the list of the 10 most stolen vehicles in New Jersey and New York in 2020, according to a new report of the National Office of Insurance Crimes (NICB).

The “Hot Wheels” report identifies the 10 most stolen vehicles in America in 2020, which also includes a detailed report for New York and New Jersey, as well as other states.

According to the study, the Honda Accord was stolen 541 times in New Jersey last year, with the 2017 model being the most popular. The Honda Civic ranked second overall with 457 thefts. Another Honda also made the top 10: Thieves stole the CR-V SUV 239 times in the Garden State.

“Auto thefts saw a dramatic increase in 2020 compared to 2019, in part due to the pandemic, an economic recession, realignment of law enforcement, exhausted school and social programs, and in many cases complacency of the owners ”, said in a statement David Glawe, president and CEO of the NICB.

The NICB notes that a car is the second largest investment for Americans, second only to acquiring a home. Therefore, the organization urges owners to protect their investment regardless of the type of vehicle they have.

Full-size Ford trucks were stolen more often than any other vehicle in the United States last year.

The full-size Chevrolet pickup (40,968) surpassed the Honda Civic (34,144) to become the second most stolen vehicle nationally.

Vehicle theft increased 11% nationally last year, according to the National Office of Insurance Crimes.
