Do you get the vehicle registration document from the bank (credit) if you sell your car to buy a new one? (Vehicle)

Hello, I couldn’t find a suitable answer on the internet because the case is somewhat bizarre, and I would be very happy about your answers/tips. Thank you in advance.

In 2019 the car was financed through the bank. The seller was a dealer. The loan from the bank has now been paid off and I should actually receive the vehicle registration document from the bank. The problem is that the vehicle registration document was NEVER available to the bank, I found out today. It’s been three years and no one noticed.

The dealer says that the vehicle registration document was definitely sent to the bank at that time, otherwise the bank would not pay out the loan (is that true?). Accordingly, the seller does not have the vehicle registration document either. The bank tells a different story, namely that the vehicle registration document was never received.

In the end, I would have to have the new certificate issued at the registration office and pay €70 – €80 for it and under no circumstances tell me that I never received the vehicle registration document. The tip from both sides (bank and seller) is to take responsibility for the loss and say that I have lost the vehicle registration document. The other way around, the truth could lead to certain formalities that could possibly be unpleasant for the bank and the seller, I suspect.

Has anyone had as bad luck as me?
