How much does an iPhone 16 Pro cost Apple

Sold from $999 in the United States (€1,129 here), the iPhone 16 Pro would cost $568 to produce, says the Japanese daily Nikkei (via 9to5Google). The A18 Pro chip would also be the most expensive component of the lot, estimated at $135 per unit. Next comes the Samsung M14 OLED screen at €110, then the photo configuration at $91.

Of course, as we have said, let’s not jump too quickly to the conclusions that Apple thus achieves a margin of $431 per iPhone sold. But it is interesting to note that this production cost increased by around 6% compared to iPhone 15 Pro.

This is explained in particular by a global economic context that is still quite tense, with multiple conflicts which slow down production chains and complicate access to certain components. Research and development costs also had to soar: unlike in recent years, the firm had to develop two new chips, the A18 for iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plusand the A18 Pro for the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.

A Pixel 9 Pro much cheaper to produce

The Japanese newspaper also draws a comparison with another important smartphone of the year: the Google Pixel 9 Pro (discover our test).

It is also designed to meet the requirements ofartificial intelligenceit also sells for $999 in the United States. However, the calculation of Nikkei brings the bill to just $406. A difference of $162 which can be explained in particular by less expensive components.

The Tensor G4 chip would cost Google $80 and the various photo modules $61. Surprising: the Pixel 9 Pro has the same screen as the iPhone 16 Pro. However, Samsung would only charge him $75 for it.
