The former Guatemalan Miss Universe Ivana Batchelor has been known for participating in several national and international contests that pay tribute to beauty, and she is recognized because from a very young age she has forged her modeling career in the world of catwalks. However, she was recently attacked for her responses in an interview where she seemed to deny her Guatemalan roots and the wave of negative comments was immediate.
In his sections, Batchelor has proudly worn Mayan clothing that encompasses the mysticism and traditions of the country and has raised the name of Guatemala with his incredible participations, but this time users on social networks have not forgiven him for his response.
While it is true, much has been criticized about Guatemalan beauty queens since they question that most of them do not represent the true Chapina woman, since their physical aspects are more oriented to European culture.
And this was no exception, because a Spanish tiktoker who lives in Guatemala and who is dedicated to creating content for her podcast asked her about her origins and that it is known that she is Guatemalan but that her parents came from abroad, so she answered the question.
COMMENT ON THE CONTROVERSY
“Well, it is a little obvious that I am not fully Guatemalan, but my parents are originally Americans, they are from Georgia, United States. They came 30 years ago to be missionaries, this is where I and my other sister were born. “My parents fell in love with the country and this was where I grew up, here in Xela,” she responded.
She also clarified that she never grew up with the idea of thinking that she was from the United States: “my parents always instilled in me that I was 100% Guatemalan, that is why I loved this country so much and that is why I wanted to stay working here,” she explained.
OFFER APOLOGY
In this regard, Batchelor spoke about his recent interview. “I have seen many comments about my recent interview and I want to clarify a few points. It has never been my purpose to offend my country and even less its people. To those who felt that way, I want to apologize from the bottom of my heart and that has never been the purpose,” Bachelor argued.
“In the video I was trying to explain that as it is public knowledge that I have two nationalities, primarily Guatemalan and secondarily American. I have never been ashamed, as they say, of being Guatemalan and proof of that is that in the past I have been criticized for using things only from Guatemala,” she stated.
The beauty queen commented that it has always been important for her to show where she comes from and where she is from and that makes her feel proud. “For those who ask me why I don’t want to return to pageants, this is why we queens and former beauty queens always suffer criticism that affects us. I am in the process of improving my mental health and it is a long process and like any human being I am going to fail. I am trying to improve to give you the content that you deserve,” she concludes.
