According to Sumskaya, both she and her daughter, who is hushing up Russian aggression against Ukraine, are being written by people on social networks “the most terrible comments.”
“I don’t know how she keeps. When she sends me these messages, I read them. They wish the worst,” said the actress.
Sumskaya stressed that Papernaya supports Ukraine, but they are doing everything to ensure that her two children are safe.
“Whoever is there knows how difficult it is. Say something, write something. People are disappearing, you know? First of all, she is the mother of her children, and she does everything to ensure that they are safe. She is with Ukraine with all her heart, she is a Ukrainian first of all. Yes, it’s hard for her today, but I shouldn’t make excuses, I shouldn’t say anything. I believe we’ll meet someday” – summed up the actress.

On February 24, 2022, on the day of the Russian attack on Ukraine, Papernaya said that “all this is terrible”, but did not call Russia an aggressor country. Sumskaya, commenting on her daughter’s silence on the war, explained this by “total dependence on circumstances.”
On April 25, Sumskaya, answering the question why her daughter did not leave the Russian Federation, stated that she could not leave her home in the aggressor country. The actress later said that she would not make excuses for her daughter’s position.
In 2014 Sumskaya in an interview “1+1” said that her daughter intended to renounce Ukrainian citizenship and obtain a Russian passport. According to Sumskaya, at that time they had already paid UAH 0.5 million for a Russian passport.
