Do we have a substitute for gas from Russia? The versions of the rulers

Our country has already secured alternative ways to supply gas if Russia decides to stop the transmission. The routes have already been chosen, and at the moment the only problem before signing the contract is the price, the MP from “Democratic Bulgaria” and deputy chairman of the energy commission Ivaylo Mirchev revealed to BNT a few days ago.

According to him, Bulgaria will even become a country that will support natural gas supplies to Western Europe. “I hope that with the joint actions of the European Union by the end of the year we will achieve good prices and this issue will be resolved,” he added.

Earlier, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov repeatedly stated that the European Commission would negotiate with the Russian company Gazprom on our behalf.

The fact that we will negotiate together with the EU countries is already completely changing the game in the negotiations, the Prime Minister stressed. We will have to negotiate on an equal footing, in a completely different way. This was a huge victory for the Bulgarian interest, Petkov boasted.

By lowering the price of gas, with some good negotiations, which we expect, this would lower the price of electricity, and hence inflation, said the Bulgarian Prime Minister.

One group of countries wanted a clear ceiling on a fixed gas price. On the other hand, there were countries that were worried that they had very long-term contracts at very good prices. That is why we transferred this part of the ceiling to the European Commission, but the fact that we will negotiate with “Gazprom” all countries was a big step, Petkov explained during one of his visits to Brussels.

Gas storage facilities will have to be filled, but there will be a solidarity support mechanism, as not all EU countries have storage facilities, the prime minister added.
