The question of raising the retirement age has been dividing Poles for weeks. This is due to the Minister of Finance, Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, who admitted in one of the interviews that there should be a debate in Poland about increasing the retirement age. This caused a big storm, as she said – the government is not planning any changes this term.
However, the topic is alive and the Poles are talking about it. Now the Minister of the Family, Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, has commented on the news and in an interview given on Tuesday September 24 to Radio ZET, she clearly said that there was no question of a legislative extension of the retirement age for everyone, but…
New retirement age in Poland. The Minister gave the decision
Higher retirement age? No, but the Poles themselves should work longer
– We want to introduce incentives to be voluntarily active in the labor market for a longer period of time. How to encourage the elderly? By changing the labor market, for example by planning to shorten working hours, said Minister of Family Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk. – The truth is that as we age, we get tired faster and our effectiveness time is shorter. He is not a lazy person. The labor market needs to be more flexible, she said.
35 hours of work a week? It can be difficult in these competitions
The idea of shortening working time is not new, it was already discussed before the elections. Currently, the Central Institute for Labor Protection – National Research Institute is analyzing the impact of such a solution. And although the proposed change would be to the benefit of workers, the votes are divided. The Poles directly say that in some positions, it would be very difficult to introduce such a reform, and sometimes even impossible. How do you introduce a 35-hour work week in health care, where there are already too few doctors and nurses?
The minister wants extra pay for the elderly. Up to 30 thousand PLN more until you retire
There would also be problems in the services. Because how can we ensure safety and a shorter working week, for example in the police, where there is already a shortage of about 16,000 people? officers?
35 hours of work? “Officials get”
Farmers are also listening to the proposal of the Minister of Family with interest. – It is impossible to introduce a 35-hour work week, I am against it. I worked on the farm for 40 years without a day off, 14 hours a day. I couldn’t be sick, and even if a cow kicked me and I broke my ribs, I had to go to the ceremony every day, says Eugeniusz Mokański (65) from the town of Łęgno (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship).
As he emphasizes, it is the officers in particular who will benefit from this. – Whoever works in the public sector, will get money, and whoever works in the private sector will lose money – he said.
