Launch from Times of India, wearing freshly purchased clothing can increase your risk of developing skin problems. There is a high chance that the new clothes are transmitting some germs and bacteria which can cause some skin infections.
Basically, clothes that are freshly made at the factory will be packaged and shipped from one place to another via various modes of transportation before arriving at the store. It is difficult to keep track of exactly where the fabric is made, stored, and how it is transported.
That way, your new clothes may have come in contact with some pathogens and germs.
While at the shop, the clothes will be tried on by many visitors. “You can never be sure how many people before you try it. Dead skin and germs from other people’s skin may be on clothes,” notes Times of India.
“This can cause dermatitis, itching and redness,” he added.
There are at least different types of chemicals used to make fabrics and dye them. All of these chemicals can cause itching and redness when they come into contact with the skin.
Launch from Time, Dr. Susan Nedorost, a professor of dermatology at Case Western Reserve University states that it is possible for you to develop a disease a few days later after wearing new clothes, such as redness and itching.
“When we look at contact dermatitis from clothing, the allergen usually comes from fabric dyes,” says Dr. Susan Nedorost.
Contact dermatitis is an allergic reaction related to the immune system to allergens that come into contact with the skin. This causes several reactions, such as a rash that appears a few days after exposure.
Nedorost also said sweating and friction can cause the dye to leach out of clothes and onto the skin.
