On Tuesday, Erdogan will meet Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson and Finnish President Sauli Niinistö on the sidelines of the NATO summit that begins in Madrid that evening.
“We do not want empty words, we want results,” Erdogan told the press before flying to Spain.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is also expected to attend the meeting, where the goal is to persuade Turkey to let the two Nordic countries into NATO. The meeting follows lower-level negotiations between representatives from the three NATO-led countries on Monday and last week.
Erdogan also told the press in Istanbul that he will meet US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the summit. The main topic of the bilateral meeting is expected to be Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
