Typically, models of the caliber of Porsche 911 Turbo they usually don’t “accumulate miles”. This is because they are often seen as an investment by their owners and therefore, the less kilometers they have on the odometer, the better.
However, not all owners think so. Tom Thalmann and his 911 Turbo are proof of this. Used as a daily vehicle by Thalmann, this 911 Turbo also made “obligatory” visits to the circuits, its “natural habitat”.
As a result of this heavy use, Tom Thalmann’s Porsche 911 Turbo achieved higher mileage than usual diesel taxi that in sports: 676,000 miles or 1,087,916 kilometers.

Critical-proof reliability
The Porsche 911 of the 996 generation was the first to be equipped with a the engine boxer liquid cooling — many fans of the brand at the time did not “forgive” heresy. The 996 generation also didn’t win many fans in terms of mechanical robustness, but judging by this example, it seems to be worthy of the legacy of its forebears.
After all, over a million kilometers only once has this Porsche 911 Turbo seen its engine taken off the body and gone in for… preventative maintenance.
Eric Kaul, a friend of Tom Thalmann, explains it to us on his Facebook page Apex self-propelled tell us a bit about the history of this 911 Turbo.
According to Kaul, at 383,000 miles (about 616,000 kilometers), the engine was removed to fix minor oil leaks and change the turbos.
According to his account, once the engine was ‘out of the car’ the mechanics would open it to check the condition of its internal components and, in general, everything was as it was when the 911 Turbo left the factory.
Since then, this Porsche 911 Turbo has only undergone scheduled maintenance and apparently its owner has no intention of changing cars. With all of this in mind, don’t be surprised if this 911 Turbo will make headlines again in a few years with much higher mileage.
