The Directorate General of National Disaster Management draws attention to important information regarding flash floods – writes 0627.hu.
As they say, a flash flood occurs in a short time as a result of a large amount of local precipitation, it arrives quickly, and it is powerful! The precipitation that falls with great intensity in a short time is more than the soil can carry away, so the runoff quickly appears on the surface and suddenly reaches the settlement in its path. For these events, not only the amount of precipitation, but also the topography, soil and surface cover, as well as land use parameters, must be taken into account.
These are the most important advice from disaster management regarding flash floods
The flooded river water is unpredictable, don’t go in it!
If you have to cross a flooded area or road on foot, at least two of you should start so that you can help each other!
If you don’t have to, don’t try to cross the rushing water, even a 20-centimeter-high stream can knock you off your feet.
Do not drive over it!
A severed power line is life-threatening!
Listen to the news!
Use the phone only in justified cases!
If possible, help those with limited mobility.
Turn off electricity, water, other services, close them!
Stop the horror stories!
It is recalled that two people died in Gyöngyöstarján as a result of the heavy rains: one of them was swept away by the water of the flooded stream, and the other was swept into a cellar system by the suddenly rushing water. The two people were searched with great efforts, but their lives could no longer be saved.
