G. Gopika, who lost loved ones in the tragedy of Pala ∙ Munnar Pettimudi, will join MBBS today at Palakkad Govt. Medical College. Pala Brilliant teachers, who fully supported Gopika and her parents’ desire to study and become a doctor, are taking Gopika for admission to Palakkad Medical College today.
On August 6, 2020, Gopika lost 24 members of her family including her father P. Ganesan and her mother Thangam in a landslide. Gopika and her sister Hemalatha, who is a graduate student, were at the home of Ganesha’s sister Lekha’s daughter in Thiruvananthapuram when the tragedy that shook the country occurred.
Shortly before the tragedy happened, I had spoken on the phone with my father and my mother. Their dream was to become a doctor. Now is the effort for that. Gopika said: “I have full confidence”. Brilliant authorities have given great support. Education was completely free. Thanks to all the teachers, friends, public representatives and others who encouraged me despite the difficulties. The last time I went to Pettimudi was a year and a half ago. I’ll be back next week – Gopika’s eyes shine.
This is the first time that a person from Munnar Rajamala Estate’s Pettimudi division has joined MBBS. Gopika scored A Plus in all subjects in the Plus Two exam. Gopika is also the adopted daughter of the government.
