Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President John Magufuli of Tanzania is reported to have passed away. The man reportedly died at the age of 61.
During his lifetime, he was known as the leading Covid-19 skeptic in Africa. This often gets him into trouble, including with the world health agency, WHO.
Magufuli’s departure was announced on Wednesday (17/3/201) by Vice President Samia Suluhu. He said the president died of heart failure.
“Our beloved president passed away at 6 pm tonight,” Suluhu said on national television AP.
“All flags will fly at half-mast for 14 days. That is sad news. The president has been suffering from this disease for the last 10 years.”
The vice president said that Magufuli died in a hospital in Dar es Salaam. The area is the port area of the Indian Ocean which is the largest city in Tanzania.
Although the vice president said the cause of Magufuli’s death was heart failure, opposition politicians said he died of Covid-19. Moreover, previously Magufuli was reportedly in a coma due to being infected with the Covid-19 virus.
Magufuli has upset the WHO by stopping reporting on coronavirus data in May last year. This is because he does not believe in the existence of the corona virus which causes this pandemic.
In fact, this president said that Tanzania does not need a lockdown because God will protect its people. Home precautions such as inhalation of vapors are better than harmful foreign vaccines.
“Vaccines are not good. If so, then the white man will bring the vaccine for HIV / AIDS,” said Magufuli on the sidelines of his activities.
“We Tanzanians do not lock ourselves and do not expect to lock ourselves. I do not expect to announce any lockdown because our Lord lives and He will continue to protect the Tanzanians.”
