Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – WhatsApp will release a new feature, Multi-device. With this feature, your WhatsApp account will still be used on several devices at once even if it’s a cellphone smartphone not connected to the internet or dead due to running out of battery.
“With this new capability you can now use WhatsApp on your mobile phone and up to four other non-phone devices at the same time. Even if the phone battery dies,” wrote the Facebook Engineering page as WhatsApp’s parent, quoted Saturday (24/7/2021).
However, because it is only available for beta, users must first join the program in order to experience the new features of WhatsApp. In order to use it, also make sure that WhatsApp is in the latest version.
On Android, the way to join the beta program is to open the app and tap the ‘Options’ menu or the three-dot icon. After that click on the linked ‘Devices’ menu or ‘Linked Devices’ and press ‘Multi-device beta’.
If you want to exit, repeat the method above until ‘Multi-Device Beta’. Then continue by clicking ‘Exit’ from Beta.
Meanwhile, on iOS, the beta can be activated by going to settings and clicking ‘Linked Devices’, then clicking ‘Multi-Device Beta’ and ‘Join’. To log out, keep repeating that way and once in the ‘Multi Device Beta’ press click on ‘Sign Out’.
Facebook also emphasized that it is still ensuring the security and privacy of users in this new feature. That is through end-to-end encryption that the platform has used before.
“Importantly we have developed new technology to maintain end-to-end encryption while still managing the synchronization of your data such as contact names, chat archives, starred messages and more across devices,” said Facebook.
