Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A surprising study says that extraterrestrials or aliens have the potential to see human life on Earth from 29 planets in the Solar System.
The research was conducted by two astronomers from the United States (US) some time ago.
They said that the research was obtained by looking at the faint shadows when the planets transited in front of the Sun.
This technique is also known to be used by humans to find out other life in space.
“One way we find planets is if they block some of the light from their parent star,” said Lisa Kaltenegger, director of the Carl Sagan Institute at Cornell University. Global News.
“We asked, ‘Who are we aliens for, if someone else is looking?’ Well there’s a tiny sliver in the sky where other star systems have a cosmic front seat to finding Earth as a transiting planet.”
Initially, astronomers identified 1,715 other star systems that could see Earth during the period of human existence.
Then, they narrowed the list down to 46 star systems close enough to hear radio and TV broadcasts from Earth.
“We wanted to use the closest star,” said Jackie Faherty, senior scientist at the American Museum of Natural History.
“When it comes to exploring the world, the one closest to us will be the most exciting,” Faherty told NPR News.
Astronomers think aliens living on the planet Ross-128 b, for example, may have found Earth. Meanwhile, residents of Stars B and C Teegarden will have the opportunity to see Earth in about 29 years.
Previously, some thinkers, including the late theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking, had warned against trying to make contact with extraterrestrial life. Because maybe the aliens wouldn’t be happy to hear from humans.
Some even suggest that there may be many alien races out there among the stars. Yet they all remained ‘silent’ to avoid a major threat to their civilization.
