Do not advise going out to sea today – NRK Sørlandet – Local news, TV and radio

Strong winds characterize the south coast today. The wind is up 20 meters per second. This causes the sea to build up with large waves. Meteorologist Terje Alsvik Walløe warns against traveling on the sea today.

– It is simply dangerous to travel on the sea today. We recommend everyone to leave the boat. The wind is strong and the waves are several meters high.

Cancels departures

Both Fjord Line and Color Line have canceled all their departures this afternoon from Kristiansand to Hirtshals.

– We relate to how the weather is developing, but we expect departures to go as usual tomorrow morning, says Nina Moland Andersen, sales and marketing manager at Color Line.

Color Line’s departure from Larvik is also canceled this afternoon.

Unusual in July

Norway is familiar with varied summers, but the meteorologist thinks today’s weather is unusual.

– This is summer storm. It’s colder and the wind is stronger than normal in July. Had this been an autumn day, it would have been more normal, says Alsvik Walløe.

– Exciting

In Lindesnes, it is expected that the wind will pick up at 14 today. According to the lighthouse keeper at Lindesnes lighthouse, Hans Christian Høgetveit, the wind will be at its worst between 14.00 and 18.00. He says many will come to visit the lighthouse today precisely because of the strong wind.

– Obviously it is exciting to follow how the weather and the waves will build up today, but we expect many tourists here and then it is important to be careful. In addition to strong winds and high waves, there are also smooth rocks.

– Better weather, but equally strong wind

According to the meteorologists, the weather will improve throughout the day, but the wind stays strong until tomorrow morning.

The case is being updated.
