Future iPhones might ship without a USB cable. This is indicated by a customer survey that Apple is currently conducting. IPhone 12 buyers are not only asked about the included accessories, but also their experiences with Face ID.
Apple is currently asking some customers of new iPhone 12 models for current iPhone features and included accessories. The owner of an iPhone 12 Pro Max shared this survey that Apple sent him with 9to5Mac. For example, he asks which supplied accessories are actually used. Apple stickers, a SIM tray tool, and a USB-C Lightning cable are currently included with the iPhone 12.
Apple regularly removes unnecessary iPhone accessories
Apple conducted a similar survey earlier this year. Customers were advised to use the power supplies that came with the iPhone. You can imagine what the majority of customers responded – after all, today’s iPhones are sold without adapters (and without EarPods). Apple justifies this by the negative impact on the environment that unnecessary products would have.
It is therefore conceivable that future generations of iPhones will ship without USB-C cables. Much will depend on the results of the current investigation.
2021 iPhones with Face ID and Touch ID?
In turn, iPhones could not only bring Face ID, but also an under-screen Touch ID feature in the coming year. The current customer survey also highlights the daily suitability of the current unlock method. For example, iPhone buyers are asked if they have any security concerns regarding Face ID, slow performance issues, or other issues with the technology. You will also be asked if Touch ID would be preferred. This matches rumors that iPhones in 2021 may have both Face ID and Touch ID – and then for the first time under the display – on board.
