Today, everything that matters happens online. Social networks, information sites, opinion platforms… And it’s not just the future, it’s already the present!
- Why make a flyer when you can make a post?
- Why distribute flyers when you can put a banner ad on a site?
- Paper, traditional media… all of that is outdated!
REALLY ?
The virtual and new technologies have indeed experienced exponential growth and are now ubiquitous, but it would be a mistake to believe that they have annihilated competition…
You wonder if flyers are still used ? The answer is: YES, more than ever!
We explain why.
We are all more attentive in the real world than online
Studies show it, we have all noticed it: our ability to concentrate has declined drastically over the past decade.
We find it difficult to pay attention for more than 5 to 7 seconds, before being distracted by a notification, a message noise, a moving image…
It’s true, BUT… it’s much more true online than in real life!
Examples:
When you communicate by instant message, you do several things at the same time. Sometimes you don’t read certain messages, or even leave in the middle of a conversation, because you will simply have forgotten that you were chatting…
Would you do the same in real life? Would you walk away without saying anything while someone talks to you face to face? Of course not…
Another example, more related to the subject that interests us:
You open your mailbox, and you see a whole list of promotional messages and other newsletters sent by various sites. Newsletters which should interest you since you have subscribed to receive them, and they are therefore supposed to be of interest to you. But how many are you going to erase without opening them, or even reading the title?
Just as you will open your mailbox, in which you will find, for example, three leaflets. You will read them, or at least scan them with your eyes!
Of course you are going to throw away that of the marabout who promises you money and happiness by asking yourself if there are really people who believe in it, you are only going to leaf through the promotions catalog of the local DIY store, and the announcements of new development projects in your town will only interest you for a few minutes… But they have all held your attention much longer than the emails!
Tips for creating a flyer that works
If your paper flyer has a good chance of attracting the attention of the person who receives it, it will nevertheless take a good quality flyer to manage to maintain this attention and generate interest.
So, here are some tips to follow to create a good flyer.
Work on the visual
You suspect it, an attractive visual brochure will be more successful than a text printed black on white and without images…
Even marabouts and clairvoyants have gotten up to speed and started making real flyers, so immediately forget the printed Word document, even if you have chosen a nice font and well formatted your text!
Perfectly edited images, drawings and texts are therefore absolutely necessary.
keep it simple
Knowing that you finally the attention of your target, it can be tempting to abuse it. Error !
Yes, your flyer will be scanned, but it’s unlikely to be fully read if it’s too long or cluttered.
A flyer that works knows how to go to the essentials, by allowing the author to be immediately identified (with the company logo, for example), by giving information quickly (“sales up to -50% this Saturday “), and by offering a possibility of contact for those who wish more information (telephone, email, website, etc.)
Look professional
If you don’t need to hire Apple’s design team to make a flyer for an evening that you organize, a minimum effort will be required.
Sorry, but in 2022 we don’t make a flyer with Paint and/or Word!
Nor is it necessary to learn how to use professional software or take a course to become a designer: a simple flyer design tool will allow you to quickly obtain a good quality prospectus, and without much prior knowledge.
There are some very good ones that you can download for free.
Target flyer distribution
One of the big advantages of the flyer is that it can be given directly to the people for whom it is primarily intended.
Are you having a party this weekend? Distribute your flyer near universities, put it in the mailboxes of student residences.
Do you sell hearing aids? Leave your flyers in doctor’s waiting rooms, or in activity clubs that primarily attract older people.
Do you organize extracurricular activities for young children? Use school and nursery notice boards to advertise your ad.
Optimize your prospectus: put it online!
Who says your flyer can’t be distributed online?
You have created a great design, both attractive and interesting, and you already have it in digital format… You can perfectly distribute it on social networks, or use it in a mailing!
There is no point trying to pit online promotion against offline communication: they are two powerful tools for reaching your audience.
Your interest is to combine them as well as possible.
Be aware that it is also very likely that the flyer distributed on social networks will receive more views if it has been previously distributed as a paper flyer. Internet users recognize it (unconsciously, it is true) and are therefore more likely to click on it to find out where they have seen this message before…
You would have understood it, flyers are far from gone.
On the contrary, their use is becoming more and more widespread. This is also why it has become necessary to work on the visual and to offer an attractive and interesting flyer, in order to stand out.
A good flyer, distributed offline and online, remains one of the best ways to promote yourself.
