Schools have a new subject – design and technology (it is now taught in 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th grades). This differs from housekeeping, which the child studied before, in that in the new subject, children learn to make things using technology, do research to apply the acquired knowledge in everyday situations.

Design and technology are replacing the current household. There is a big change in content – teaching children to create things using technology. If a child is taught to create a specific thing, then do not think about the wider application of skills. Now encourages students to learn different techniques. For example, a child learns cylindrical knitting (not specific knit socks) and will look for the application of his knowledge in implementing his idea, explains Madara Kosolapova, an expert in the field of design and technology studies at School 2030.
The views of parents in the show show that boys in particular are not happy about learning to crochet or weave, which is more about activities for girls.
“When the boys ask why they have to crochet or weave, the children speak in the words of their parents,” says Madara Kosolapova.
One should stop dividing women and men into skills, but understand that there are adult skills.
Does Madara Kosolapova ask if a man learns how to cook?
Listeners of the program invite to learn more useful things in everyday life. The expert describes the learning process – children do research and then use the knowledge in everyday situations.
“Why would it be bad for my child if he knows more,” teacher Edgars Visockis invites parents who deny the need for any skills and spending time studying at school.
The process plays a bigger role in the new standard than the end result, experts emphasize.
