DNT closes 16 tourist cabins on the Hardangervidda

Due to the wild reindeer in the area, the Norwegian Tourist Association is closing 16 tourist cabins on the Hardangervidda this spring, and again next winter.

– All reductions in the offer will mean that the public is excluded from the outdoor life experiences they may have wanted. But we must all do our part to achieve sustainable wild reindeer management, says DNT’s general secretary, Dag Terje Klarp Solvang, to nations.

The dates the 16 cabins will be closed are May 1-10. June 2022 and October 15-1. March 2023. The background is the very poor condition of the wild reindeer population in the area. The wild reindeer start calving in May and move to the calving areas already in April.
