“DNR” and “LNR” withdrew the decision on “independence” – Lavrov

Lavrov urged to abandon speculation on the issue of recognizing the “independence” of the “LDNR”

Representatives of Donetsk and Lugansk went towards the Normandy Four, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry claims.

Russia is not officially considering the possibility of recognizing the so-called “DPR” and “LPR”, and their representatives, when signing the Minsk agreements in February 2015, withdrew the results of their “referenda” on “independence”. About this on Friday, January 21, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrova after talks with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Geneva.

The “referendum” held in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions was seriously discussed at the Normandy format meeting, where the Minsk agreements were being prepared. And the leaders of France and Germany begged us to persuade the representatives of Donetsk and Luhansk to sign their names. That is, in fact, they went towards the Normandy Four and withdrew their decisions on “independence”, realizing that the Minsk agreements would be fulfilled “from A to Z”. First of all, granting a special status to these territories,” Lavrov said.

According to him, according to the Minsk agreements, Ukraine should secure the special status of Donbass in the Constitution and hold a general amnesty for the separatists, as well as elections “in agreement with Donetsk and Lugansk.”

“This is the state of the story with the status of these territories now,” Lavrov added and called for refusing to speculate on the issue of recognizing the “independence” of the LDNR.

Recall that this week in the State Duma of the Russian Federation submitted a document on the recognition of “L / DNR”. Members of the Communist Party of Russia proposed to appeal to President Vladimir Putin with a request to recognize the so-called “People’s Republics”.

Peskov reacted to the proposal to recognize “L/DPR”
