“Dnepr-1” and Prague “Slavia” can be satisfied with the results of the second match of their confrontation, which took place in the third qualifying round of the Europa League. Vice-champions of Ukraine did not lose, which is not bad after the defeat of a week ago in Prague. Slavia, in turn, achieved a positive result and advanced to the next round.
The result of the first game, no doubt, left an imprint on the second leg. The Praguers played, realizing that Dnipro-1 could not win back the three-goal head start. And, at the same time, they owned the initiative and from time to time caught their opponent making mistakes in defense. Even before the break, Kinareykin saved his team from a goal more than once. And just before the whistle about the end of the first half, the Ukrainian team opened the score. Rubchinsky fired a powerful shot from outside the penalty area – right into the bottom corner.
Ah, if only… You can’t bring back the past, but if Dnipro-1 had managed to score the second goal, who knows how this game would have turned out. Pikhalenok had such a chance at the beginning of the second half, but this time the goalkeeper saved Slavia. And seven minutes later the Czechs “calmed down” the wards of Alexander Kucher. Yurechka took advantage of another failure of “Dnepr-1” in the center of defense and realized a one-on-one exit.
In the remaining time, if anyone could change the score, it’s Slavia. “Dnepr-1” must thank Kinareykin, who saved his team in several episodes. Now the Ukrainian club is waiting for another European Cup transition – to the Conference League, where the vice-champions of Ukraine will play with Spartak from Trnava. And this is the last chance to stay in European competition this season.
