Strong price growth and high housing interest rates have contributed to many Norwegians struggling to make ends meet financially. Now chief economist Kjersti Haugland in DNB has a happy message. The interest rate will go down and the first cut will come in September. In total, it will decrease by well over a percentage point in the next few years.
– The total will go down slowly, but surely. Now the key interest rate is 4.5 per cent. When we stop in 2025, we think we will be at 3.25 per cent, says Haugland in the podcast Stavrum & Eikeland.
She says in the podcast that she thinks wages this year will rise by more than five percent for most people.

Still expensive southern holidays
If the mortgage becomes cheaper, the chief economist would rather put cold water in the blood of those who want cheaper holidays in the south.
– I don’t think we will get a stronger krone. The euro is getting more expensive. The Norwegian economy is more like other countries now, says Haugland.
