Dnata, the global aviation and travel services group, announced that it will continue to launch initiatives to reduce its environmental footprint through its operations in the UAE.
And it stated that subsidiaries of the group, namely: “Dnata Logistics”, “Arabian Adventures”, “Alpha Flight Services” and “City Sight Driving”, recently converted their vehicles to operate with a bio-fuel mixture, so that this strategic step reduces CO2 emissions. Carbon in the country is estimated at 80 tons annually, which is equivalent to the emissions of a medium-sized gasoline-powered car that travels more than 320,000 km.
Dnata stated that its initiative comes within the framework of its efforts to reduce the carbon footprint and reduce the amount of waste by 20% by 2024, in line with its two-year green operations strategy, pointing out that it announced in June 2022 that it will invest $100 million in operations. green within two years to enhance its environmental efficiency worldwide.
dnata Group Chief Executive Officer Steve Allen said: “We are constantly exploring and implementing methods to reduce emissions across our fleet and infrastructure to reduce our carbon footprint. The use of biofuels by a number of our companies in the UAE represents an important step in our continuous efforts, which is a simple and effective way to reduce emissions, without the need to make any changes to equipment.”
He added, “We will continue to invest in our operations, including large-scale infrastructure solutions, to enhance our sustainability performance and achieve our green operations goals.”
According to the “Dnata” statement, the “Dnata Logistics” company for multimodal freight services has converted 31 of its trucks to work with a biofuel mixture in its center in Dubai, so that this step saves about 35 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, which is equivalent to driving eight gasoline-powered cars for a period of time. a whole year.
As for “City Sightseeing”, it is a joint venture with “Dnata Travel Group”, and it operates three tourist routes, using 21 open-top buses that run on bio-fuel. These buses travel an average of 76,000 kilometers per month, removing more than 32 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year, equivalent to the electricity use of four average households for 12 months.
In turn, Alpha Flight Services, the dnata catering joint venture, has converted five ground vehicles to a biofuel blend, and intends to convert all of its catering trucks in Sharjah. Thanks to this initiative, Alfa will save seven tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, equivalent to charging more than 850,000 smartphones.
In the same context, the “Arabian Adventures Company”, which specializes in organizing tours, converted the electric generators in its camps for desert “safari” trips to work with a bio-fuel mixture. The company will save about five tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually thanks to this initiative, which is equivalent to burning 525 gallons of diesel.
In addition to its latest initiatives in ground operations, dnata has invested in the electrification of its ground handling fleet in its global airport operations to reduce emissions, with more than 15% of the company’s global fleet now electrified.
