DNA Match links the Tampa adult film actor to a murder that happened 12 years ago

TAMPA, Florida (WFLA) – A Tampa man was arrested on a 2010 murder charge, according to South Florida agents.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office said on August 30, 2010 that lawmakers responded to a call for a suspicious incident at a home in Oakland Park.

There they found Alfred McMurray, 31, lying face down with a gunshot wound. Officers said a vehicle and several items belonging to the deceased victim had disappeared from the house.

Even after gathering evidence at the scene and through interviews, the agents were unable to identify the man’s killer, but in May 2022, investigators received a tip that led them to a possible suspect: Aaron Michael Dobbins, 52 years old, from Tampa.

According to NBC affiliate WTVJDobbins was a gay porn actor who knew the victim through his partner and roommate at the time, fellow adult film actor John Navarro.

“BSO Homicide Unit detectives determined that Dobbins lived in Oakland Park at the time of the murder and knew McMurray through Dobbins’ roommate,” the sheriff’s office said.

The WTVJ reported that an arrest report alleged that Navarro had sex with the victim while dating Dobbins, who was also part of a sexual interaction between the two. Investigators said Navarro told them Dobbins was jealous.

The agents obtained a search warrant for Dobbins’ DNA and found a match between the sample and evidence gathered at the scene 12 years ago. Investigators said DNA from the scene was taken from under McMurray’s fingernails.

The suspect was arrested in Hillsborough County and sent to Broward County, where he was charged with first degree murder.
