Pregnant women who chose to vaccinate themselves against the virus that causes covid-19 did not expose their child to any increased risk.
On the contrary, these children had a clearly lower risk of serious complications, including death. The mortality rate among children whose mothers were vaccinated was only half that of those who had not.
This is shown by the largest study in the field to date, carried out by Swedish and Norwegian researchers.
However, the researchers say they do not understand the reason for this connection.
– We have made several attempts to explain this. But no matter how we twist and turn it, the find remains. We therefore cannot say what the lower risk of death among children of vaccinated women is due to, says one of the researchers, Mikael Norman at the Karolinska Institutet, in a press release.
The study was recently presented in the medical journal Jama.
