(ANSA) – NEW YORK APR 9 – DMX, the rapper and deep voice actor who topped the charts with songs like “Party Up” and “X Gon ‘Give It to Ya”, has died at 50, reported today his family through a statement.

The rapper, whose real name was Earl Simmons, had a heart attack on April 2, according to his attorney, Murray Richman.

He was immediately hospitalized in serious condition.

“Earl was a warrior who fought to the end,” his family said in the statement. “He loved his family with all his heart and we appreciate the time we spent with him.”

White Plains Hospital confirmed that DMX passed away “at peace with the family present after suffering catastrophic cardiac arrest.”

DMX burst onto the rap scene in 1998 with their first studio album, “It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot.” The album debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, fueled by hits such as “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem”, “Get At Me Dog” and “Stop Being Greedy.” (ANSA).
