In an article published in Rossiyskaya Gazeta, he said that, first, the confrontation with the West has become global. Second, 2022-2023 will become a period in history that will leave its mark as an era of great civilizational cleavage and the apogee of humanity’s existential crisis in the 21st century. He recalled that Russia was forced to launch this operation to protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity and the security of millions of its citizens.
Medvedev emphasized that the conflict in Ukraine is not just a “regional conflict”, but something deeper.
In addition, Medvedev warned Western politicians that if their provocations against Russia go too far, there will be a sharp response from Moscow.

According to the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Moscow did not obey the West’s attempts to bend it to its will and gave a firm resistance.
He drew attention to the fact that with the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine “at the suggestion of the United States, a complete package of “double standards” was put into action. “Nothing new, everything is as usual: independence and territorial integrity, in the opinion of the collective West, can be defended only by those who are given permission was granted. The rest must be pacified, crushed, and best smeared over their own territory in bloody lumps,” the politician described what was happening.
Medvedev noted that Russia “does not want to admit such logic”. “She did not submit to someone else’s will. And she fought – firmly and categorically”, he added.
The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council stated that Russia will achieve the elimination of the threat of Ukraine’s membership in NATO.
„Our goal is simple – to eliminate the threat of Ukraine’s membership in NATO. And we will achieve it. One way or another. Today, even the “smooth” leaders of the Kyiv regime admitted that in a state of conflict, Banderokraine (as it is now accepted to call its rotting remains) will not be accepted into the alliance.” said the politician.
At the same time he noted: “However, a very simple and sad conclusion follows from this: if the conflicting countries are not accepted into NATO, then the conflict will be permanent, because it is a question of the existence of Russia.”
According to Medvedev, Russia never tried to restrain NATO, but only asked that its security concerns be taken into account and that the countries of the former USSR not be invited to the alliance.
He, in particular, commented on the statements of the West that “Russia wanted to contain NATO, and the alliance expanded at the expense of Sweden and Finland.” “This is a pure lie. We have never tried to restrain NATO. This is not in our power and capabilities, and these two Scandinavian countries were actually already associated with the alliance. We have always wanted only one thing – to comply with our concerns and not to invite former parts of our country to NATO, especially those with which we have territorial disputes,” said the politician.
