dm Bulgaria’s Growth: Increase in Customers, Stores, and Turnover

The number of customers of dm Bulgaria grew by 29% for the period October 2022-September 2023 for all points of sale in this period – 109 physical stores and the online store, which was opened a year ago. The main contribution to the increase in the number of customers is due to physical stores, where the average daily number of customers per store increased by 18%. The growth to 29% is complemented by the new 12 branches and the online store.

The larger number of customers in the last year also led to a growth in dm Bulgaria’s turnover of 44.6% for the last financial year – 01.10.2022 – 30.09.2023.

By the end of 2024, there will be over 120 dm stores in Bulgaria

In the last year, dm, the largest drugstore chain in our country, has invested in expanding the network of physical stores. 12 new sites were opened and so there are now 110 branches in 40 cities. For the first time dm stores were opened in cities such as Razlog, Smolyan, Pomorie and Dupnitsa. The plans for the financial year 2023/2024 are to open at least 10 more new stores, and so their total number in Bulgaria will exceed 120.

Network coverage will also expand with entry into Karlovo, Asenovgrad, Elin Pelin and Ravda. In the period October 2022 – September 2023, BGN 11.5 million were invested, which is over 41% more compared to the previous period. In addition to opening new and renovating existing stores, they were also focused on developing the online store and training the company’s employees.

The new dm stores will have a lower carbon footprint

Investments in the development of the affiliate network are made throughout the dm subgroup in Austria, Bulgaria and 10 other countries in the region. Over the past year, nearly 118 million euros have been invested in opening new sites and completely changing the existing ones with a new design.

According to the company’s plans, from 2025 at least 30% of the plastic used in store furnishings must be from recycled material, and by 2040 it must reach 100%.

In terms of reducing the carbon footprint of dm Bulgaria, “green” energy is used. Two of the chain’s stores operate with electricity obtained from photovoltaics – in the town of Kardzhali and in Sofia, on Botevgradsko Shosse Blvd. The company plans to build photovoltaic installations on other of its stores in 2024. For the last financial year, the Logistics Center of dm Bulgaria, together with half of the physical stores, are powered by clean energy, which is 100% obtained from renewable sources.

Number of employees grows by 28%

Dm stores also increase the number of employees. By the end of the financial year, they were already 1,363 people, which is 28% more than the previous year.
