The highly successful automated construction strategy Factorio from the Prague studio Wube Software has received a major update and has seen the release of the expected DLC Space Age, which players have been looking forward to since the first hints in 2022. Only a year ago, the developers announced that we will fly into space, then this July with the official they also set the release date as October 21, 2024. The expansion was released in the morning, and together with the base game, it immediately shot to the top of the current worldwide best-selling games on Steam. And to top it off, much like DayZ with the Frostline DLC, Factorio is now repeatedly breaking its record for the number of concurrent players.
Factorio was released in early access on Steam on February 25, 2016, and in the full version on August 14, 2020. The game reached its record and maximum concurrent players just a few days later, namely on Sunday, August 23, when 34,700 players played Factorio at once. However, now we can talk about a much higher number, or rather numbers that we learn as usual thanks to the SteamDB database. In recent days, the maximum was around 20,000 players, but within an hour after the release of the DLC, however, the record from 2020 was broken, as the game recorded a maximum of over 46,000 players. At the time of writing, the milestone of 70,000 players was surpassed, and later climbed over 77,000. However, the number continues to grow every minute and it cannot be ruled out that it will increase even more in the course of the evening – the current numbers can be monitored anyway directly on SteamDB. As for the already mentioned marketability, Factorio has overtaken in global sales, for example, the discounted Forza Horizon 4, the pre-orders of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, as well as the free Throne and Liberty and Counter-Strike 2.

A new trailer for Factorio: Space Age was released ahead of time, which, together with the accompanying commentary (and at the end, a musical theme familiar to all players), shows off the beauty of space and new possibilities that will keep players busy for dozens, if not hundreds, of times. thousands of hours of building and automating. Not only is the expansion enjoying a lot of interest from players, but also extremely positive reviews, among which we can find only a few negative ones, the overall summary is currently 98% and proclaims an extremely positive rating.
