DKI Health Office Will Release Wolbachia Mosquitoes Starting in October

SinPo.id – DKI Health Service (Dinkes) said that the mosquito Aaedes aegypti with wolbachia will spread in early October 2024. The spread of mosquitoes is to reduce cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in the Jakarta area.

This was expressed by the Head of the DKI Health Office, Ani Ruspitawati, in a discussion at Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, September 25 2024.

“The MoU between the Ministry of Health and West Jakarta City Council started on October 4, and then the first release of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes carrying Wolbachia in Kembangan. The plan is to do this in RW 7 Kembangan,” he said.

According to him, the mosquitoes are placed in the homes of residents who are “foster parents” (OTA). Ani said that as many as 800 families were ready to become foster parents (OTA) until buckets containing mosquito seeds containing Wolbachia were placed in their homes.

“We have prepared more than 800 foster parents who are ready, their homes are willing to be placed in buckets of wolbachia,” said Ani.

In addition, Ani hopes that the presence of wolbachia mosquitoes will help reduce dengue cases. And also efforts to eliminate mosquito nests through 3M (drain, trust, recycle) Plus continue to strengthen.

“PSN, which runs once a week, has even been promoted twice a week. In October, when we release Aedes wolbachia, we will have one innovation to strengthen dengue control,” he said.
