Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Provincial Health Officei DKI Jakarta warned the people of the Capital City to be careful of disease transmission measles.

The reason is, this disease infects all ages. Not only among children, but also adults.

“Keep in mind, 75 percent of measles affects toddlers, 20 percent of elementary school children, and 5 percent of adults,” Head of the Epidemiology Surveillance and Immunization Section of the DKI Jakarta Health Office Ngabila Salama told CNNIndonesia.comFriday (20/1).

Ngabila said that cases of measles in DKI began to increase in September-November 2022. Then began to decrease in December 2022.

However, he asked the public to remain vigilant. “In DKI there is only an increase in cases, but it has not been designated as an outbreak,” he said.

Ngabila said that the increase in measles cases in Indonesia was due to the decreased achievement of immunization in children in line with the conditions of the corona virus pandemic (Covid-19), which caused the concentration of health workers to be divided to pursue Covid-19 vaccinations.

Thus, He requested that parents immediately complete the measles and rubella immunization, by giving it three times. The details are given at the age of 9 months, 18 months, and grade 1 SD.

“Perform early detection. If a child has a fever accompanied by red spots on the skin or redness of the eyes, cough and runny nose, immediately take him to the nearest health center or health facility for treatment and further examination, or if a blood sample is needed for diagnosis,” said he.

“It is important to comb and complete the measles-rubella immunization for toddlers and elementary school children,” he continued.

Head of the Ministry of Health’s Communication and Community Service Bureau Siti Nadia Tarmizi stated that 3,341 cases had been identified in 223 districts/cities.

Nadia said an outbreak could be determined if there were at least five cases of measles in an area.

However, Nadia confirmed that until now the government has no plans to determine the status of outbreaks throughout Indonesia.
