tanu.co.id – DKI Jakarta Health Service (Dinkes) will start distributing Aedes aegypti mosquito eggs containing Wolbachia in Kembangan district, West Jakarta, on October 4. This step was taken in an effort to reduce the number of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases in the area.

“Wolbachia mosquitoes are expected to be released on October 4,” DKI Jakarta Health Service Chief Ani Ruspitawati said in Jakarta, Thursday (26/9/24).

Kembangan District was chosen as the first place because it has the highest number of dengue fever cases in West Jakarta. By using the Wolbachia method, it is hoped that the mosquito population that spreads the dengue virus can be controlled.

Ani said his party had prepared 859 buckets containing Aedes aegypti mosquito eggs containing Wolbachia out of a total target of 1,474 buckets that would be distributed in the area. The mosquito eggs will be released gradually.

“After the mosquito eggs are released from the bucket, the bucket is cleaned and refilled and then released again within two weeks. This process repeats itself every two weeks for six months,” Ani explained.

The DKI Jakarta Health Office also plans to continue providing access to the public regarding the Wolbachia method, to increase public understanding and support in implementing the program.

“We will continue to give residents access to the Wolbachia mosquito and the use of its methods,” concluded Ani. [Fhr]
