DKI Food Security Agency Implements Biosecurity to Prevent Bird Flu Transmission

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – DKI Jakarta Food Security, Maritime Affairs and Agriculture Agency (KPKP) implements biosecurity procedures to break the chain of transmission bird flu a new clade that has the potential to occur in the Capital City.

“We are carrying out biosecurity procedures at poultry farms, shipping centers, even when unloading and raising livestock,” said DKI KPKP Agency Head Suharini Eliawati in a discussion on bird flu prevention in Jakarta, Thursday, February 2, 2023.

The Jakarta KPKP Agency is wary of the transmission of the new H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b virus considering the need for poultry in Jakarta reaches one million birds per day.

For this reason, he continued, supervision of poultry traffic from other areas into Jakarta needs to be tightened because DKI Jakarta is not a poultry farm producer.

“The animal certificate from the area of origin is a very important requirement. So that it becomes everyone’s vigilance and attention,” he added.

Apart from that, he continued, the focus of vigilance was also carried out on officers at poultry slaughterhouses considering that DKI Jakarta has six slaughterhouses (RPH).

“In DKI there are six poultry slaughterhouses. Going in and out will definitely be something we need to watch out for together because officers can become carriers (carriers of the virus),” he added.

Another way to improve biosecurity is to keep the poultry house clean and disinfect it. In addition, use a mask when in contact with poultry.

The DKI KPKP Service asked the public to report to the DKI KPKP Service including the regional office if they find sudden death of poultry.

There are also symptoms bird flu in poultry, the comb is red-black to blue and swollen and can be accompanied by thick bleeding at the tip.

In addition, bleeding can occur in areas of the skin that are not covered with hair, especially the shins on the legs.

The final symptom is the sudden death of birds in large numbers without any signs of illness or slight signs of paralysis.
