Before the cup rematch against Viking, Djurgården had lost their training matches against BP (3-0) and Mjällby (0-1). In addition, it was 0-0 in the interrupted meeting with Västerås SK.
Would there be an ice break now? Non. But the blue stripes can rejoice that the zero for 2024 is cracked.
In the first half, Djurgården had a couple of good scoring chances, including through Samuel Leach Holm and Deniz Hümmet. But none of them managed to manage their chances.
The score was 0-0 at half time.
In the second act, it was the away team from Stavanger who broke the deadlock. Lars-Jörgen Salvesen made it 1-0 in the 60th minute and the same Salvesen made it 2-0 just over five minutes later.
With five minutes left, Djurgården reduced. Besard Sabovic sent in 2-1 with a finish from the edge of the penalty area. However, it was Viking who got the last word.
In added time, Marcus Danielson ended up in a duel inside his own penalty area, whereupon the outcome was a penalty. From eleven meters, Salvesen completed his hat-trick and the match ended 3-1. After the final whistle, scattered boos were heard at Tele2 Arena.
– There was a lot to take in. Lots of good football. This was the best effort so far. Sad result, but there were a lot of good things to take away from this match, says Djurgården’s coach Thomas Lagerlöf to Discovery+.
