Djurgården is ready with a new coach

After the derby loss against AIK in the damallsvenskan this weekend, Djurgården got enough and fired head coach Pierre Fondin. Now they have finished with 29-year-old Magnus Pålsson as a replacement.

– This feels great and very fun to get the chance to test yourself and see how it goes at a slightly higher level. In the past, I have been mostly on the boys’ and men’s side before, so it will be very exciting in many ways, says Pålsson to Djurgården’s website.

Pålsson has a background in IFK Lidingö at U17, U19 and A-team level as head coach and assistant coach. Most recently, he came from work as an assistant coach in Helsingborgs IF’s U19 team.

I advocate a football that is controlled but where the aim is always to get to as many goal chances as possible. I like to work with a high defensive game where you can win the ball back quickly, Pålsson explains his style of play.

Djurgården’s sports director Jean Balawo about the recruitment:

– Incredibly exciting with Magnus as coach for our women’s team. He is known for his leadership, his structure around team building and his way of playing a football that is energetic and easy to identify. With this change, the ambition is for us to take the next step towards the goals we have. He is already working now and it will be very exciting to follow the development.

Pålsson’s contract is written over the rest of the season with an option to extend. Djurgården is in eighth place in the damallsvenskan with 14 points in 13 rounds.
