On Monday, Djurgården was set at home against Sirius and after only getting a draw away against Halmstad in the last round, the Stockholm team had set their sights on three points.
The match start was even, but after 20 minutes most of it came loose for Djurgården. First Jacob Une Larsson nodded in a free kick from Magnus Eriksson and a few minutes later Hampus Finndell put it 2-0, after a fine preparation from Edward Chilufya who passed on the right wing.
A few minutes after Finndell’s goal came the next full hit for Djurgården when Hannes Sveijer lost Magnus Eriksson’s finish from distance, a solid painting from Sirius’ goalkeeper.
Before half time, Chilufya also managed to make it 4-0 when he placed the ball in the open goal on a pass from Elliot Käck.
– It’s tough. We start perfectly fine, but then they come in waves upon waves. It’s heavy, Sirius Tim Björkström told Discovery + during the break.
Djurgårdens Magnus Eriksson:
– It’s just to continue. This feeling of stepping out here with our fans – you can not put it into words. It’s magical. A bit tentative start, but then there are four bags and bids for more. A great half.
In the second half, the tempo died down a bit and with just over 15 minutes left to play, Sirius reduced when Christian Kouakou steered in an input from Karl Larson. A couple of minutes later, however, Djurgården expanded when Emanuel Banda nodded in an input from Magnus Eriksson.
The final result was also written to 5-1 for Djurgården.
Sirius coach Daniel Bäckström to Discovery + after the match:
– We leave here with 5-1 and it feels crap. It will be written about the crusher today and it is a crusher. Then the second half is more like a football match, but it does not matter much. This is not good enough.
Djurgårdens Hampus Finndell:
– A very good Djurgårdsmatch. We dominate overall in the first and lead 4-0. It feels like the match is over and in others it will be a bit that we are lower and they get a goal, but then the match died completely when we make 5-1. We drive over them.
About playing with Eriksson and Schüller in midfield, Finndell says:
– I am not going to complain. I can not play with any better midfielders in the Allsvenskan.
The victory against Sirius means that Djurgården is now in second place in the Allsvenskan, two points behind Malmö FF. Skånelaget, however, has one match more played than Djurgården.
